Did you know: a car dealership must disclose if a car has been in an accident? Unfortunately, many of you didn't. As a consumer, you are protected by Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. It has many specific rules, guidelines and laws, and though confusing, with the help of a good lawyer you can rest assured that if you are ever lied to by a dealership, ripped off by a mechanic or if you fall victim to any other consumer related fraud that you have the legal recourse to regain what you've lost or be compensated what you're due.

For instance, dealerships must abide by any and all contracts they enter into with you during your purchase. Mechanics must stay within their original estimate for repairs, and if they need to exceed it (it's understandable that unforeseen challenges may come up during the course of a repair) they must inform you before hand. These rules apply to both written and spoken agreements, by anyone representing the dealership or mechanic. Additionally, a dealership can not tell you that a car's never been in an accident when they even suspect it has. Not only that, but if they DON'T KNOW whether it has or hasn't been in any prior accidents, they cannot claim they were unaware so therefore not at fault. If they don't know if a car has been in an accident, had damage repaired or any other modification to it's original condition, then they can't just tell you everything is cosmetic. They are obligated by law to not only tell you what they know, but also what they suspect.
